Detailed Schedule for
"Fall Colors of the Eastern Sierras"
October
17th Friday
We will be leaving in the early am for Bishop to scout some of the areas
around Bishop and further north on 395.
Most of the day will be spent scouting the following areas:
Bishop Creek, Bishop Creek Canyon, North Lake, South Lake, Lake Sabrina,
Aspendell, June Lake Loop, Lee Vining Canyon, Lundy Canyon, Virginia Lakes
Road, Conway Summit, Rock Creek Lake, Cardinal Pond, Hope Valley, Convict
Lake, Bloody Canyon, Little Walker Road, & Sonora Pass. We will meet
in the evening at a restaurant and finalize plans for our Saturday morning
sunrise location.
October
18th Saturday
The workshop begins at sunrise. We will spend most of the day in the best
area I found during the scouting trip on Friday. We will photograph in one
area in the morning, take a lunch break, then move to another area for the
afternoon. After sunset we will retreat to a local restaurant for dinner
and a discussion. Bring your laptop and CF cards with you to the restaurant.
We will download images and discuss the days shooting.
October
19th Sunday
We will go to a new area and spend the morning there. After lunch we will
go to a second area for more shooting. After sunset we will retreat to a
local restaurant for dinner and more discussion about the days shooting.
Bring your laptop & CF cards with you again.
October
20th Monday
A repeat of Sunday. This will have given us at least 6 different areas that
we have photographed in.
October
21st Tuesday
Time to head home
General Workshop Guidelines for the Fall Colors of the Eastern Sierras:
Bring clothing suited
for a variety of temperatures, from cold mornings to warm afternoons. Also
be prepared for potential stormy weather.
To quote David Muench: "bad weather equals good photographs."
Food, lodging and transportation are not included. Some of you may want to camp, some stay in a hotel, some may want to eat with the group while others may prefer to be on their own. This arrangement provides for maximum flexibility while keeping the cost of this workshop to a minimum. It gives you maximum freedom in planning your meals and also gives you time by yourself if you choose. If you would like to share an automobile and a room with another participant, please feel free to do so.
We will email you directions to our meeting place and a detailed workshop schedule approximately 2 weeks before the workshop.
An SUV type of vehicle
would be most suitable for this workshop. Best would be a 4WD high clearance
vehicle. We may be crossing streams and driving on back roads with rocks
that would require a higher clearance type of vehicle. If you can, carpool
with another photographer who has a 4WD high clearance vehicle or consider
renting one together.
We will be using walkie talkies to keep in touch with one another as we
travel. If you have a walkie talkie, please bring it with you. If you don't
have one, this is the one I would suggest... Walkie
Talkies with batteries. There will be no cell service
in most of the areas into which we will be traveling
We normally have
a no tag-along policy during workshop time. However, due to the nature of
this workshop, spouses and significant others are encouraged to share this
experience with you. Some experiences are best when shared with a loved
one and this trip is one of those.
