Travel to Big Bear Lake

to photograph Bald Eagles

Saturday January 17th, 2009

We will have the services of Rob Whipple, the past naturalist for the Big Bear Discovery Center. Rob has conducted many Bald Eagles tours at Big Bear Lake for the Park Service

The Big Bear Lake Bald Eagle Photo Field Trip will include extensive photo instruction:

Raw vs JPG
Using a Wimberley tripod head
Setting up your cameras functions
Use of a tripod with long telephoto lenses
Understanding the "right moment" for bald eagles in flight
Using natural light to your advantage for bird photography
Program, Aperture Priority, Time Priority, Manual - which is best for eagles?
How to effectively use tele-extenders to increase the focal length of your lenses

Using your cameras Histogram for correct exposure of the subject and the background

If you use Canon equipment, I will be setting up "telephoto stations" for you to use the following lenses:
400mm f2.8, 500mm f4.0, 500mm f4.5, 600mm f4.0 and hopefully the new Canon EF 800mm f5.6
Each of these lenses will be set-up on a Gitzo tripod with a Wimberley head
All you have to do is attach your camera body to the lens

If you have never used the new Wimberley head before, we will have several new ones
that have been shipped direct from Wimberley just for this workshop.
They will be offered "for sale" at the end of the workshop.
You can see them at ..... http://www.tripodhead.com/products/wimberley-main.cfm

Cost of the Big Bear Lake Bald Eagle Photo Workshop is $125

I will be photographing in Big Bear Lake on Friday & Sunday for my personal portfolio
If you would like to expand your Field Trip to include one of these days, the cost is $
65 per day
These are called my "Tag Along Days" and does not include instruction, just friendly conversation

Travel to the workshop, sleeping accommodations and meals are on your own

We normally have a "no tag-along policy" during workshops.
However, due to the nature of this workshop, spouses and significant others
are encouraged to share this experience with you.
Some experiences are best when shared with a loved one and this trip is one of those.
They cannot, however, be included in the training portion of the workshop.
