What should participants bring to the workshop?

Some photographic skills, an open mind and a curiosity are the primary requirements for any photo workshop. It also helps if you have a digital or film camera, a portable computer and an image editing program... preferably Adobe Photoshop. It helps if you have a general understanding of digital imaging and some experience with your image editing program. The more you bring to the workshop, the more you'll take back.
However, if you have NONE of the above, you are not only welcome to my photo workshops but are encouraged to attend for the knowledge that you will obtain. I always welcome individuals who are curious about photography and have an interest in seeing if their artistic side will be fulfilled through the medium of photography.

My camera gear and personal items that I take to workshops
-
This does NOT indicate that your personal camera equipment must meet these standards in order to attend one of my workshops. This is merely a list of equipment and personal gear that I take with me and that is available for you to try out at some of the workshops and see if you're interested in adding it to your equipment inventory. It's always best to try new gear out before you decide to purchase it.

Notation on the Links
The links, in most cases, are NOT a recommendation of the seller,
they are simply to direct you towards the products that I use on a regular basis.
Exceptions to this would be Canon, Gitzo, Really Right Stuff, Wimberley & Kirk Enterprises.
I DO recommend them as the best products available on the market.
By clicking on the link, you can find the product information & specifications.
You can often find a better price... just search for it on Google.
Copy and paste the product name & description into Google and it will search for the best prices.
But shop carefully. Use common sense when purchasing from someone you don't know.
I purchase a lot of my stuff on Ebay and often find they have the most competitive pricing.

Thoughts on camera equipment
I obviously don't take ALL of the equipment that is listed here to each and every workshop.
Camera bodies, lenses, cases and accessories need to be "tailored" to the type of photography and the location.
Photography is NOT about equipment. It's about memories, great moments in time, making new friends, seeing and experiencing something that you've never done before. The equipment that you shoot with is secondary.
Sometimes I will force myself to "limit" my equipment to one camera body and one or two lenses (however, I will ALWAYS take back-up equipment with me). This "restriction" will challenge my creativity and force me to look at a scene or a location differently. It's NOT about equipment, it's about the images. It seems that we sometimes forget about the image and concern ourselves with "pixel count", "pixels per inch", "dots per inch", "compression ratios", etc etc etc. It's not about that.... it's about the image. How does the image challenge you? How does the image cause you to see something differently? Does the image haunt you? Does the image "demand" that you take a second look at it? Does the image send your thoughts to a more peaceful place? It's ALL about the image... NOT the equipment.
